Love At First Sight?

The town I grew up in is only 20 minutes from the town my husband, Chad, is from. Our families knew a lot of the same people, and the two of us even went to the same church (Wednesday night JV and Youth groups) for a short time! But, we actually never even knew each existed (that we can remember, anyway) until our first year at college. We ended up at the same college---in a different state!

Chad transferred to the school in the fall and I came that spring. The story of how we met is kind of amusing...

I don't remember where he said he saw me first, but it was during a cafeteria 'incident' that he saw me next and apparently told a friend, "I'm gonna marry that girl". Ha! Sounds silly, but he wasn't joking! From that day on, he set out on a mission. He made friends with the group I was friends with and tried to be everywhere he knew I would be. Apparently, (I found this out much later) he jokingly referred to me as his 'fiance' to one of my good friends. She even sent me a picture of a text message that he sent her. Although, this one was after we did start dating. But I still have it!

That was about a month after we had started dating, and about 5 1/2 months before we got engaged.  I love to joke with him now, telling him he was such a creeper!  Ha!  But at the same time, it makes me feel good to know he really thought I was something special and did not want to let me get away!

So, anyway, back to my story.  We after several failed attempts, he finally caught me one night.  I was going 'star gazing' out on the soccer fields with a big group of friends, and he just so happened to be going, too.  I wasn't sure about him at first, but after a couple weeks that suddenly changed.

We hung out a lot with our group of friends, and just the two of us a few times (including our 'famous' late night walk to swing at the park, where two cops showed up, worried we were vandalizing criminals, and told us to leave).  We started officially dating about a month after we met.  Which just happened to be a couple days before Chad's 20th birthday.  Yes, people, I 'robbed the cradle'.  Chad is one year, seven months and one week younger than me.

Here we are, probably a week or two into our relationship, at the Natural Falls just down the road from our school.

Chad finally got up the nerve to say "I love you" after about a month of dating.  Finally! (Ha!)  I was about to bust, just dying to say it to him, but I didn't want to be first. ;-)  Within a couple months, we knew we wanted to marry each other and began talking about 'when'.  We quickly decided on the next summer!
